At the age of 12, Miguel went to live on the streets of Quito, Ecuador. At the age of 16 he began living in Casa Gabriel, a home for former street boys. Miguel developed a desire to help people in similar situations of poverty and need. He founded EsperanzArt, together with his Dutch wife Desi as a vocational workshop for girls rescued out of the sex trade. Their desire was to provide practical job skills and share Jesus through friendship evangelism. Today Miguel, Desi and their three children are living in Belgium where Miguel is working on a master's degree in divinity and Desi is serving in a ministry to men and women who are working in the sex industry. They continually seek God's guidance in how to love the lost and broken in whichever corner of the earth they find themselves.
